About Us

Whether you’re a performing musician, an axe-wielding bedroom guitar shredder or someone who like to dabble in a spot of home recording, Making Music Pro is for you!

I’ve been playing music for 40 years now and all of the above apply to me. I bought my first electric guitar when I was 14 years old and that kicked off my lifetime love affair with buying musical gear. I’ve played in numerous groups and combos over the years and I also make my own music so I’m well versed in pretty much everything from guitars and basses to MIDI keyboards, amps, recording equipment and microphones.

However, trying to find unbiased, informative information about musical gear and its application can be a bit of a minefield – especially if you’ve only just started out, and this is precisely why I created this site. It has two principle objectives:

  • To provide high quality information about musical equipment, what it does and how to use it via informative articles, recommendations and product reviews
  • To help you make informed purchasing decisions because after all, knowledge is power!

The great thing about being a musician today is that high quality technology has never been so affordable and that’s what Making Music Pro is all about – sounding like a pro without breaking the bank.

From an equipment perspective, meteoric advances in modern manufacturing techniques and global market forces have resulted in far more choice for the musician than ever before, whatever your budget. Quality really doesn’t have to cost the earth.

An example? Well in 1987 I decided to convert a spare bedroom into an 8 track analogue recording studio. The cost – about $5,000. Today, using a PC-based recording set-up with unlimited tracks I get stonking results from a system that cost a fraction of that amount. Including the computer, about $1,000.

Quite simply, there’s never been a better time to be making music!
