Pedalboard noise: 6 causes and quick fixes
Hum, hiss, and buzz are usually power, gain, or grounding problems—not “bad pedals”.
Common causes
- Daisy-chained power on digital pedals.
- High-gain stacking without a noise strategy.
- Cheap/long patch cables near power bricks.
- Ground loops when connecting to an interface/PA.
Quick fixes
- Try an isolated power supply for the noisiest pedal first.
- Lower gain in early stages; raise output later.
- Keep audio cables away from AC adapters.
- Test one pedal at a time to find the culprit.
